BEHIND THE EYES
EXHIBITION IN ART MUSEUM OF HYVINKAA
7.10. - 12.11.2006
Behind the eyes
paper sculpure, h=250 cm (8ft4in)
foto: Rauno Traskelin
'Behind the eyes' refers to the hidden world of human mind that can be revealed to
another person through art. Unknown and dreamlike visions of the mind can be
experienced in this exhibition.
Heli Tuhkanen describes her sculpture that gave its name to the exhibition:
"Behind the eyes there is a mysterious world, subconscious, somewhere deep.
What exists behind the eyes of abandoned children all over the world?
That has often captured my mind, and perhaps therefore this work was created."
Heli Tuhkanen's paintings are associated with the inheritage of naivistic art in its most touching form.
The paintings, light on the surface, very masterly done and so beautiful, enclose mysterious and
dolorous stories, often set up in a metaphysical landscape or space.
The big-eyed humans in these pictures loaded with the reasoning of folklore and dreams are part
of a subconscious world that will not succumb to every-day language.
Timelessness, poetry and magic are all also attributes of Heli Tuhkanen's three dimensional art
which has been given its own space in this exhibition.
